For this project, I designed a stamp series titled Imported American Pastimes, highlighting the global origins of games that are now widely recognized in American culture. The series features Mancala (Africa), Go (China), Backgammon (Mesopotamia), and Chess (India), bringing together different cultural influences through a cohesive visual system.
I wanted the designs to feel playful and engaging, using color, pattern, and simplified game imagery to reflect each game’s identity while still maintaining consistency across the set. In addition to the individual stamps, I created a full pane layout that brings the series together, incorporating a short description and background elements that reinforce the overall theme.
One of the main challenges was designing at a very small scale. I had to be intentional with typography, detail, and hierarchy to ensure everything remained clear and legible, which pushed me to think differently about composition and readability.
This project helped me strengthen my ability to design within tight constraints while still creating a cohesive and visually engaging system.
